Salt incursion into the Shatt al-Arab River - A study of the establishment of a regulatory dam and its environmental impact

 

The book included a scientific field study, which was prepared by a group of the Center's experts.
The study aimed to present a project to establish a regulating dam on the river to reduce the incursion of the salty tongue coming from the Arabian Gulf and to preserve the Shatt al-Arab's freshwater. The book presented the physical, geological and sedimentary characteristics of the river bed and water, salinity sources, chemical and water quality, biological characteristics, and an assessment of the environmental and social impact upon the establishment of the project.
