A member of the teaching staff at the Centre for Marine Sciences participated as a member of the examination panel for a PhD thesis as part of the joint scientific collaboration between the various faculties of the University of Basra.
Prof. Dr Ayman Abdul-Latif Kweis, a member of the academic staff at the Centre for Marine Sciences, Department of Sedimentology, University of Basra, participated as a member of the examination panel for the doctoral thesis entitled *Estimating the extent of erosion in the Wadi al-Majrour basin and its environmental risks in the south of Muthanna Governorate*
by Mohammed Adnan Abdul-Zahra, a PhD student in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Education for the Humanities
The thesis aimed to determine the extent of erosion occurring in the Wadi al-Majrour basin by measuring rates of soil loss and the retreat of watercourses, whilst assessing the resulting environmental risks that threaten geomorphological stability and vegetation cover in the south of Muthanna Governorate.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education for the Humanities at the University of Basra presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr Ayman Abdul-Latif Kazis for his efforts in reviewing and evaluating the thesis and enriching the discussion with valuable scientific insights.
