The Marine Sciences Center at the University of Basrah issued a book on biodiversity in the wetlands of Basrah under the supervision of the Directorate of Books House for Printing and Publishing. The book was written by Dr. Malik Hassan Ali, Prof. Salman Daoud Salman Dr. Nader Abid Salman, Dr. Huda Kadhem Ahmed and Assistant Professor Hanaa Hussein Mohammed

The book consists of eleven chapters deal with the changes that occurred in the number and density of different types of living organisms in the wetland environment of the Shatt al-Arab River, marshes and other water bodies in Basrah Governorate. The book focused on the environmental changes that occurred after 2003. The book includes valuable information in the field of marine environment and aquatic life including fungi, diatoms, plants, zooplankton, worms, crustaceans, mollusks, fish, birds, turtles and other organism.
