 A scientific study at the University of Basra published by Dr. Ali Abdul-Ridha Lafta, a research staff member at the  Marine Science Centre, studied the impact of weather factors on sea level changes in the Iraqi territorial waters in the northwest of the Arabian Gulf.
 The study, which was published in the Arabian Journal Geosciences, classified within the Scopus Q2 containers, as well as in the Clarvet database, with an impact factor of 1.98, showed that monthly and seasonal changes in sea level correlate with atmospheric pressure, temperature and changes in the wind activity.
