The Marine Science Center at the University of Basra participated in preparing the workshop
Which was held under the auspices of the Ports of Iraq Company on (the impact of oil spills on the Iraqi marine waters and ways to combat them) and held at the company’s headquarters as part of the framework of joint cooperation. Prof. Dr. Nuri Abdul-Nabi Nasser, Director General of the Marine Science Center welcomed the attendees and participants and blessed the efforts of those in charge of the workshop
And on the importance of cooperation in the field of avoiding and mitigating the damages caused by oil spills. He also clarified the great role of the center’s researchers in this field and the achievements that have been achieved, stressing that the center is a distinguished and pioneering national educational edifice in the field of environmental pollution and developing solutions to improve the management of water resources.
The participation of Assistant Professor Dr. Zainab Joudeh Mousa, a teaching assistant at the Marine Science Center - University of Basra, and a member of the liaison with the company, in preparing the workshop and giving a lecture entitled (Environmental Effects of Oil Spills on the Iraqi Coasts - Mud Flats Area).
The lecture aims to study the mudflats and the accumulation of hydrocarbons in this region, which is considered evidence of high pollution. The workshop's axes were talking about oil spills and their environmental effects on Iraqi regional waters.
