A scientific study at the University of Basra investigates the impact of mineral crust formation under different injection water sources.

A scientific study at the University of Basra, in which Dr. Wissam Razzaq Mutasher, Head of the Department of Sediments and Marine Bottoms at the Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, participated with a number of researchers, determined the effect of mineral crust formation under different injection water sources on the performance of the Mishrif carbonate reservoir in the Halfaya oil field in southern Iraq.

The study, which was published in the Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology, classified within Clarivate and Scopus Q1 containers, included that crust formation is a complex process that can be affected by several factors, including the composition of injection water, temperature and pressure, and the presence of other minerals.

The results of the study highlighted the importance of water treatment in preventing crust formation and ensuring the sustainability of oil production in the long term.
