A specialized workshop on (Basra Shatt Regulator) was held in the Southern Region Environment Protection and Improvement Directorate with the participation of lecturers from the Marine Science Center

The workshop comes in anticipation of the preparations of the research teams at the Marine Science Center to implement an extensive scientific study on environmental pollution of the Basra Shatt Regulator, which includes all areas of applied research for environmental problems that need to be addressed and the most important environmental problems diagnosed for severe pollution of liquid waste and sewage discharged near the Basra Shatt Regulator, and the accumulation of toxins resulting from industrial drainage, which threatens to accumulate in fish tissues and the adhesion of fouling The marine on the concrete wall and the steel gates of the regulator, which hinders the flexibility of movement necessary to pass water masses.
The workshop was attended by the Director General of the Department of Environmental Protection and Improvement in the Southern Region, Dr. Mohsen Aziz Mashkul, the Director of the Basra Environment, Dr. Walid Hamid Al-Moussawi, the Director of the Basra Shatt Regulator, Chief Engineer Haider Shanan Salal, and directors from the departments of water, sewage and agriculture, and professors from the University of Basra who are interested in the environment.
The workshop recommended the necessity of combining the efforts of the corresponding departments and institutions in confronting pollution cases in the Basra Shatt and preventing the dumping of liquid waste from factories and residential neighborhoods and finding a timetable to achieve this and activating the controls of environmental fines that deter environmental violations and to reduce pollution of the Basra Shatt, which is located in the middle of promising sports, recreational and residential sites in Basra Governorate.
