Under the direct supervision of the Director General of the Center for Marine Sciences, Professor Dr. Abdul-Zahra Abdel-Rasoul Al-Helou, and in the presence of a group of professors and employees of the Center for Marine Sciences at the University of Basra, and a gathering of the people of the region, the first batch of the initiative of releasing five million carp fingerlings to the Al-Mashab and Al-Salal Marshes was initiated. This initiative came Within the directives of the President of the University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, and to enhance the university's role in serving the community, increasing fish stocks and enhancing biodiversity, which will reflect positively on the local and national economy and increase the incomes of the marsh residents. The process of releasing fingerlings took placed In the presence of the District Commissioner of Al-Hartha district, Mr. Nazir Abdel-Hadi Al-Shawi, who blessed this step and emphasized the support of the District Commissioner of Al-Hartha district and the local government for such initiatives, and stressed the preservation of these fish and the non-use of overfishing. The initiative will continue to release fingerlings of locally desirable types of fish, after their numbers have decreased in recent years.
